How much does it cost to build a tiny house in Los Angeles, California? The short answer is $72,000.

I completed building this LA tiny home back in October 2018. And let me tell ya, Susan—it was quite the adventure. Permitting took about 7 months, and the actual construction took 6 months. Originally, I was told this tiny home would cost about $40,000 to build. Boy, what a fool I was to believe that. By the end, I wound up spending about $72,000 to complete the dang thing. That was with me acting as the general contractor for the building and subbing out most of the trades. I ended up doing the final 20% of the build myself, which is where I truly learned the art of handiness. All in all, my monthly note on this house is $700 and the home grosses anywhere from $2500-$3500 on a short-term basis, and $1500-2000 on a long-term basis.
